Adjacent Festival, Atlantic City, New Jersey

Pop, punk, and emo from the 2000s have been experiencing a renaissance in the past few years, and this trend will continue in 2023. On the weekend of May 27-28, a brand-new festival called Adjacent Festival will be held in New Jersey, where many of the aughts’ most successful MySpace bands and pop-punk pioneers got their start. The lineup features veteran artists like blink-182 and Paramore, who are making comebacks in 2023, and up-and-coming bands who are currently shaping the genre. That will undoubtedly be a fantastic (and extremely emo) start to the east coast summer because it will take place on the Atlantic City boardwalk.

Desert Hearts Festival, Lake Perris, California

Desert Hearts, an electronic music event on Lake Perris, will be held from May 5–8 and will unite music lovers on a dance floor. This year’s event will have theme campgrounds just off the dance floor and vehicle camping on the grass next to the stage. The beach will, of course, play a central role, but there will also be other forms of entertainment and water sports available. Sound like a fun way to spend a few days.

Houghton, Norfolk, UK

Houghton, which takes place from August 10-13, is a festival for forest ravers and is oddly located on the grounds of the neoclassical manor home Houghton Hall from the 18th century. The estate, which art lovers usually frequent for its sculpture garden, takes on a completely different vibe on this particular weekend in August when techno and house fanatics throw a nonstop three-day party in the woods (yes, there’s a 24-hour music license). One of the newest festivals in the UK, its program reads like an alphabetical list of today’s most exciting electronic acts; read it if you must, but more likely, simply show up and start dancing.

Primavera Sound, Barcelona, Spain / Madrid, Spain

When: Thursday, June 1–Saturday, June 3 / Thursday, June 8–Saturday, June 10

One of the most incredible festival lineups in the world is constantly put together by Primavera Sound. The gigantic festival, which has many locations worldwide, always begins in Barcelona, then the following weekend in Madrid with the same lineup. This year’s headliners are Pet Shop Boys, Blur, Halsey, Kendrick Lamar, Depeche Mode, Rosalía, and Calvin Harris.

Portuguese Primavera Sound Porto takes place June 7–10 with a similar but smaller lineup. Later this year, it will head to the Americas with a TBA lineup. Nonetheless, the central weekends of Primavera are the only event we’d be willing to fly across the globe to attend.

Lollapalooza, Chicago

Lollapalooza is an American music event that debuted in 1991. Rock, hip-hop, electronic, and alternative music are just a few musical styles represented during the event. The festival is renowned for its eclectic program and lively atmosphere. In 1991, it began as a traveling show and was held in hile, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, and France. But after a few years, Chicago became its permanent home.

It will be held from Aug. 3-6, 2023, and this year’s headliners are Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Odesza, Lana Del Rey, Karol G, The 1975, TOMORROW X TOGETHER.

Meadows in the Mountains, Smolyan, Bulgaria

Are you searching for a unique underground music festival? A private parcel of property in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, with expansive vistas over floral meadows, mature woods, and rolling hills, is home to Meadows in the Mountains, which may be the most beautiful event location in the world right now.

The festival is also one of the few in the industry to advocate for regenerative environmentalism, having constructed solar power infrastructure, water treatment schemes, rainwater retention landscapes, compost-to-biogas converters, and reforestation plans. In addition, because of the festival’s modest size, attendees are more likely to form lasting connections with one another and become fast friends over the course of the weekend. It takes place on 1-5 June. So, suppose you’re interested in attending the festival but need more money to travel there. In that case, the organizers give away a limited number of complimentary tickets to those who make the most effort to get there.

Dimensions, Tisno, Croatia

Dimensions will return to Tisno Garden Resort on the Dalmatian coast from August 31 to September 4, 2023. It is expected to maintain its status as one of the top festivals in Europe. There is the typical roster of festival classics, B2B exclusives, label parties, and debut performances from DJs playing house, techno, electro, breaks, minimal, D&B, and disco. Dimensions are the place to go if you want to hear the grittier sounds of cities like Chicago, Detroit, London, and Berlin, but do it while basking in the sun next to the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic.
