First of all, we want to know how in the 21st century, in our modern world, when the memory of the two bloody world wars is still alive, can anyone start a war again?
Since then this is the first war in the history of mankind, which has taken place during the existence of social networks, nuclear power plants, drones, and other technological components of modern civilization. Therefore, you could hear many political, psychological and technical “reasons” for this war.
But in reality, for twenty-two years, Russia was stuck in the past. When the world moved forward, Russia was degrading and dreaming about past USSR times.
On February 24, the whole world was shaken by Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
Sadly, it has resulted in a humanitarian crisis affecting thousands, forcing a mass exodus to neighboring countries like Hungary or Poland. Most men have stayed behind to join the fight in some capacity. Fortunately, multiple countries, organizations, and people all around the world are against this war and do so many things to show their support and to help Ukraine win in this crazy war.
We want to tell you more about multiple artists, brands, platforms, and celebrities who help Ukraine and don’t want to be indifferent.
The Stand Up for Ukraine rally
An array of artists from Billie Eilish to Céline Dion, Stevie Nicks, and Radiohead stated they support Ukraine and took part in a social media rally organized by Global Citizen. They urged governments and institutions around the world to support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. It was called The Stand Up for Ukraine rally and took place on April 8. So let’s take a look at what they did to help Ukraine.
Billie Eilish shared a recent performance of her song “Your Power” with her brother Finneas, which they dedicated to the people of Ukraine during her Happier Than Ever world tour. Billie also spoke about the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and mentioned that her performance was ‘in honor of the people of Ukraine.’ She also urged world leaders to take ‘immediate action’ and help those displaced across the world due to the current situation.
“To world leaders, there are millions of people being displaced from Ukraine. We need you to answer the call and for you to take immediate action to support displaced people around the world. For those watching, help amplify this message so our leaders know we must take action immediately. We stand with Ukraine.”
Céline Dion shared a video where she sends a passionate plea to world leaders.
“I’m standing up for Ukraine. To all the world leaders, we need you now more than ever before to answer the call from everyone: activists, advocates, and volunteers who are working to support refugees from Ukraine and around the world,” she began.
I #StandUpForUkraine and for refugees around the world. I’m calling on world leaders to help all those who are forced to leave their homes. Please make sure that they get the support that they desperately need now: https://t.co/wDKhuLbFAV – Celine xx… pic.twitter.com/oWhlbiZplG

And this is only a tiny part of those who took part in the rally. Besides them, Harry Styles showed his support for Ukraine by carrying the country’s flag during N.Y.C. Concert Stop, Adam Lambert, Rita Ora, U2, Ozzy Osbourne, Usher, Miley Cyrus, and many others.
Even the legendary band Pink Floyd has reunited to release their first material in 28 years, which is a protest song against the war in Ukraine. The song is built around a spine-tingling refrain from Ukrainian singer Andriy Khlyvnyuk of the band Boombox. This song is a show of “anger at a superpower invading a peaceful nation”. But it is also a morale booster for the people of Ukraine.
They started working on the song when David Gilmour, the band’s guitarist and vocalist, saw the Instagram footage of Ukrainian artist Andriy Khlyvnyuk. The singer posted footage of himself fully armed in Kyiv’s Sofiyskaya Square, singing The Red Viburnum In The Meadow, a protest song written during the first world war, which has become a rallying cry in Ukraine.
This song has not only lifted up the spirits of Ukrainians but also allowed foreigners to see the Ukrainians’ determination to fight for their country no matter what.
The Ukrainian creative community has also gathered in Kyiv to share their experiences and what they feel about the war. This fundraising event called “Art as a weapon” combined music, theatre, visual art, cinema, and lectures. All the proceeds from the day were sent to the Ukrainian army and volunteer organizations. An event never felt so important. As one its performers Mariia & Magdalyna claim ”It was like a greeting from a happy past and a sudden realization that this isn’t my past, but my present. This event gave me great vigor, prospect for a bright future, and a sense of unity”.
This event was extremely important for Ukrainians as it makes people see that not everything is in vain and that there is a normal life they can return to.
Celebrities Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively gifted rdaddphp million to Ukrainian refugees by donating to the United Nations refugee agency in late February. Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings tweeted that he was making a rdaddphp million donation to Razom, a Ukrainian nonprofit group, on March 2. Celebrity power couple Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis raised over million for Ukraine, which earned them a personal thank you from the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, on March 20.

Even Queen Letizia of Spain violated royal neutrality and supported Ukraine in the Russian-Ukrainian war. She wore a vyshyvanka, a traditional Ukrainian shirt, to the Mutua Madrileña charity event. She went to press in the Ukrainian shirt and made a speech.
The American writer Stephen King has repeatedly spoken about his attitude to Russia’s war against Ukraine and decided not to continue contacts with Russian publishers.
Harry Potter author Joan Rowling was asked on Twitter by one of her followers: what spell the director of Hogwarts used to send statues to protect the castle. “I think we need it now in Ukraine,” the follower wrote, adding an image of the Kyiv Motherland monument.
The writer sincerely replied: “This is one of those moments when I really wanted to use magic. I support Ukraine!”
Moreover, Rowling said she would increase donations to 1 million pounds for humanitarian aid to children in Ukraine.
Celebrities not only support Ukraine and its citizens, but they also refuse to perform in Russia. Imagine Dragons, Franz Ferdinand, Iggy Pop, The Killers, Green Day, BrainStorm, Rammstein, and others canceled their concerts. Furthermore, the vocalist of the famous German band Rammstein Till Lindemann helped Ukrainians fleeing the war at the train station in Berlin. It was also his decision to cancel Rammstein’s concerts in Russia.
On February 24th russia attacked Ukraine. It started a senseless war that had already taken thousands of lives and became a reason why millions of people had to leave their homes. putins actions – his assault of Ukrainian people`s liberties, freedoms, and independence – are not new to history. His campaign of terror has many similarities to Hitlers’ actions, and the world cannot let this happen again.
Millions of people and organizations are moved by the resilience, courage, and strength of Ukrainians: as well as by their kindness, empathy, and grace.
That`s why they stand with Ukraine and refuse to accept the actions of this bloody terrorist country and its leader.
We all believe that soon justice will prevail. Ukraine will definitely win!
